Introduction
Childhood anxiety problems are common and can run a chronic course if left untreated. Brief therapist guided, parent-led Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) (i.e., where a therapist empowers the parent/carer to learn and apply CBT techniques with their child) is an efficient way to increase access to evidence-based treatment for affected families.
The event will be equivalent to 5.1/2hrs of CPD.
Content
This workshop aims to provide an overview of brief therapist guided, parent-led CBT for child anxiety problems and outline how to address common challenges therapists face delivering this approach. Common challenges include:
Engaging parents in the treatment model
Managing parents’ differences of opinion about their nature of their child’s difficulties
Working collaboratively with parents to support them to design exposures that effectively test children’s fears (even when families are living in challenging circumstances).
This workshop will also provide an overview of recent developments of brief therapist guided, parent-led CBT approaches, including online modalities and developments for a wider range of mental health difficulties.
